LitBuzz Review of UNBROKEN

Thanks to Tanya at LitBuzz for such a wonderful review of UNBROKEN.

… a totally original supernatural thriller that is as fascinating as it is engrossing …

… sweeping in magnitude … intimately touching …

… new twists in the plot that will keep you on the edge of your seat as you wonder where this will all end …

… such raw but real characters whose struggles and emotions are almost tangible …

… the Unquiet Series is so well done and captivating that I could not put it down and am eagerly waiting for the next book to be published.

Mutual enemies. Opposite worlds. She fled to keep him safe. He won’t stop until he finds her.

Waapikoona’s journey home was supposed to be a respite from the chaos that tore her from her path in Missouri. Bad news and new grief cut the warm welcome short. Even armed with the perfect clue to find her sister’s abuser, the danger she faces is all too … real.

Mick feels like the most unqualified of heroes. Too much to do brings too many mistakes and distracts him from his hunt for Waapikoona. When an unexpected guest arrives in his woods, urgency electrifies his search. It’s no longer just his life that depends on finding Waapikoona.

The creatures of the underworld are multiplying. Growing bolder. And now threatening more than just Mick. He can’t solve anything without Waapikoona, but someone else has found her first—someone who wants her dead. She’s been raised from her grave once. Twice would be a miracle.

UNBROKEN Update – Formatting Begins

I have the first pass of formatting in my inbox and hope to review the whole file this weekend. Timing is good because it gives me an excuse to rest sore muscles from a trip to some Missouri shut-ins. The weather was perfect. Temperature in the low 80s, low humidity, bright hot sun and blue sky with big clouds offering random shade. The lack of bugs was great too, but also a bit … strange. Where did all the bugs go?

UNBROKEN Update – First Draft Finished!

UNBROKEN is finally down on paper (the digital kind). It’s not perfect, but the whole story is built. I just need to fix and polish, and rework a couple big scenes because right after I wrote them I was too traumatized to go back over them the next day like I normally do.

Earlier today I got about a paragraph from the end and hit a wall. So I took a break and vacuumed the house and in the midst of that the end came to me. Vaccumming to cure writer’s block FTW. My revisions start tomorrow.

UNBROKEN Update – Homestretch

Here’s how I’m finishing this book:

1. Tuning out distractions with earbuds playing the sounds of grackles layered over forest rain if I’m writing during daylight hours, spaceship sounds or celestial white noise if writing after sunset.

2. Wildly crossing through big chunks of hardcopy notes I’ve been carrying around with my laptop for six months.

3. Rereading a lot of UNQUIET.

4. Gushing new words with hardly any editing. Not my normal thing. It will mean lots of rewriting later on the last 25% of this book. That’s okay. I see the end. I need to run for it.

If my outline holds true, I’m four chapters from the end. Cover art is also in progress.

Here is a shot I took of a real, non-YouTube grackle hanging out in my yard.
