UNQUIET Update – December 7

Twenty-eight degrees Fahrenheit is the perfect temperature for a night walk. A lively dog who sets a quick pace and likes to add in bursts of sprinting is a must. Added bonus is neighbors using their fireplaces and filling the crisp air with woodsmoke. We walked/ran two miles in about 45 minutes. It would have been quicker if we hadn’t needed to stop from time to time and sniff many individual pieces of grass. And pause on the street corner to survey for threats and scrutinize every blinking Christmas light and falling leaf. And go out of the way to avoid the inflated waving Santa who most certainly was trying to kill us. Can I trade June, July, and August for three more Decembers?

On to book news. My revisions are going very fast. Editing starts very soon. My guess for publication is March, but don’t hold me to that.

I still haven’t decided which of the three closing lines is the one…

UNQUIET Update – I wrote the closing line!

…actually, I wrote *three* closing lines. I’m not sure which one is the right one. XD

But what’s important now is this story is written! I’ve done a lot of revising and editing along the way so it won’t need much more from me. I plan to send it for editing in a few weeks (after I’ve completely tortured myself in trying to make it perfect although I know it never will be).

UNQUIET Update – November 9

I’m on the last chapter. It’s taking for-ev-er. My goal is to finish draft one and start revisions by Tuesday. Wish me luck, I’ll need it.

UNQUIET Update – September 29

Here is what I should be doing:

Sowing grass seed where a blow-up pool killed the grass in my backyard.
Cutting weeds out of the bushes against my house.
Vacuuming the finished section of the basement.
Clearing clutter out of my house.
Washing my car.

Here is what I’m actually doing on this cool early Fall day:

Sitting in my sunroom in my house slippers writing a story.

UNQUIET Update – August 19

Fall has been in the air these last few mornings and it’s pure magic. It’s starting to feel like book publishing time. Now all I need to do is finish the darn thing. So, what’s new? More words added. Body count increasing. Haven’t hit the climax yet but should be there soon. It’s late now but I’m going to try for 500-1,000 words before I call it a day…

UNQUIET Update – July 3

Another strong month of progress here. I believe we’ve passed the midpoint. Right now I’m in the process of piling as much stress on this hero and heroine as I possibly can. I need to see what happens when they break. And then I need to break them more. Hopefully they won’t take it out on each other.

On second thought… I kind of hope they do. ;)

UNQUIET Update – May 24

Finally, a solid month of words that have put me very close to the halfway mark! That’s progress I can be proud of for the first time since starting this book. And I even took a weekend road trip to see my fav band play. So yeah, check this month off as a glorious success. Over 10,000 words added, plus live metal. \m/

UNQUIET Update – April 25

The title of the new book and series is official. Book one is UNQUIET. The series is UNQUIET SERIES.

Things are very unquiet. I wish I could muffle these voices for a few hours at night for some kind of reprieve. Two mornings in a row I woke up with severe jaw pain from grinding my teeth. I knocked out about 2,000 words yesterday and woke up today with no pain. Coincidence? No. I blame these characters and all the unquiet. Today I hope to do another 2,000, if anything to save my teeth.

And again, I have new distractions in the household. Rescued feeder rats now living in a three-story rat condo with access to daily snacks of Cheerios and Cheez-Its. They know they are surrounded by predators, but one of them chooses to snooze the day away anyway, and the other has decided to spend all her time on the top level TEMPTING THEM.

Here’s the dog as she watches them and imagines what they taste like.

Here’s the dog after being told, “No, you can not eat the rats.”

The cats are so crazed from temptation that they refuse to be photographed.
