THE WARRIOR Update – July 26

The slaughter has begun. What’s on my mind as I finish up this book is how much is too much? Is there a line? A number, a body count? Something concrete that determines when a reader will start thinking the book’s hero/heroine is no longer so heroic?

Hopefully not. Because these last twenty thousand or so words are blood red. Please don’t hate me.

I’m writing as fast and hard as I can, I promise. And trying not to think about how much I’m going to miss these characters when this book is finished.

My guess is one and half more months until I type THE END.

THE WARRIOR Update – June 20

I never knew there could be someone in this series more brooding and conflicted than TB.

Progress is…happening. It’s a lot slower than I want it to be, not because I’m blocked but because I’ve hit a spot where each sentence takes thirty minutes to write. And they’re not even good sentences. A big scene change is about to happen though, and once I get involved in that hopefully words will come faster.

Also to blame? Chigger bites. I have a high tolerance for pain but a nonexistent tolerance for itching. It’s so distracting. I thought these bites had exhausted their payload but then I found THREE NEW ONES. Why?! How?! I think they’re in my yard but I have no idea where, and I can’t really take a shower every time I go outside. I think they wait for me to come out and water my flowers and then they jump on me in the dozens. Twenty-four hours later the bumps develop but the chiggers are long gone. Which means they, what, dropped off in my bed? After feasting on me, unnoticed, for how long? Pardon me while I bathe in fire.

Happy summer solstice, everyone!

THE WARRIOR Update – May 18

It’s so hard falling in love with characters I’ll have to hurt and probably kill. I do know the ending of this book but there are…options. It all depends on what the characters do to get there. (please let there be an HEA please let there be an HEA)

THE WARRIOR Update – April 14

It’s almost Beltane and I’m nowhere near where I hoped to be with this book by now. Current word count is 35,589 (goal is 100,000-120,000). I just started chapter 10.

I need to write in more blood and guts because I expected more and there just simply isn’t enough.

My weirdest Google search for this book so far: “alligator death roll.” Coolest research: Škoda Fabia R5. Can’t tell you why because spoilers. :)

Not much else to report other than last books in a series are hard. :/

THE WARRIOR Update – March 11

Quick update: I’m 22,361 words deep into THE WARRIOR. That’s six chapters in. And I just wrote something more disturbing than the altar TB builds out of you-know-what in book 4. I tried to talk myself out of writing it for days because it’s just…not cool. The story always wins though. So there it is. And the research I had to do? CANNOT PURGE THE IMAGES.

About Book Five

So. Book five. The big finale. I’m not sure how I’m going to pull it off.

I have 4,558 words written. That’s 18 manuscript pages, almost to the end of the second chapter.

There’s a new character whose head I was afraid to get in. I was worried I’d never connect, that this person was too far away from me to be anything but forced. After writing my way into it, I’m shocked at how alive this character is. Looks like there’s a new star to this series, with a character arc that’s going to be extreme. I’m not sure how I’m going to be able to get through the day with yet another voice in my head.

Like all my books, I know the ending, and I have several bits of plot in the middle that move the story along, so it’s just a matter of writing up to each point until I reach the end. Easy, right?

I’ll post updates about once a month, and I promise to write as fast as I can.

THE ALIGNMENT Free on Kindle (Thank You for the Downloads!)

THE ALIGNMENT is free on Kindle right now and has rocketed to #1 in several categories and into the Top 100 Free. Thanks so much to everyone who downloaded the book. I couldn’t be more thrilled.

It’s free through tomorrow, so tell your friends! And if you read it and like it, please consider posting a quick review on Amazon or Goodreads (or both!). Indie writers rely on reviews from readers and are very grateful for each and every one.

And if you happen to like it enough to continue through the series, thank you! Your support powers my writing. I’ll post a quick update about book 5 very soon.

Here are links to all my books in case you’re on a review writing spree. Books 2-4 are hurting for some new reviews too. :)

The Alignment is a contemporary fantasy series about two rival families and the people caught between them. If you haven’t read the first book, the Kindle version will be free on Amazon January 19-23. This series is very sequential so the books should be read in order. Subscribe by email in the right sidebar to receive notice when my books go on sale!

I’m incredibly proud of THE CATALYST. It’s a tight package of a story that moves as fast as its position in the series demands. We’re nearing the climax here and things are tense. TB is feeling the strain and taking it exactly as you’d expect. Liv? Well, let’s just say she’s losing it too.

Thanks so much to my talented team: editor Max Dobson, proofreader Debra Argosy, and the artists at Damonza.com. This book would not be what it is without them.

I hope you like THE CATALYST! It’s being released at $2.99 as a thank-you to the fans of the series who’ve been waiting patiently. Price will go up soon, so get it now!

THE CATALYST
Book Four of The Alignment Series

Trey returns from another visit to the Moore estate with nothing but more anger and less room in his head to stow it. Old coping mechanisms no longer work. Not with a newborn in the mix. And Liv, who’s had enough.

Liv has found what’s missing: a memento of her past she’s worked hard to forget. It unearths memories of a different man—a stable partner, a loving father. As it draws her in, Trey’s new anger drives her away.

Desperate to find Liv, Trey digs into his arsenal of magic for a dark power he’s never used. He shouldn’t use—he has to use. What he doesn’t expect is who that power lures: a visitor, with answers for Liv, complications for Trey, and a claim on their daughter almost as threatening as the Moores’. And what that power creates: a weapon, perfectly crafted to target all who share his blood. A vulnerability placed upon their daughter. And the perfect way for the Moores to destroy them all.
